Why Should I Get a COVID-19 Vaccine?

Why Should I Get a Booster?

Boosters help protect you or your loved ones from getting seriously ill, going to the hospital, or dying from COVID-19. Everyone ages 6 months and older should receive one updated (bivalent) booster.

The current boosters also are designed specifically to give you added protection against the recent strains of COVID-19, including the Omicron and Delta variants. This gives you added protection against infection, hospitalization, or serious illness.

FAQs

Can I walk-in or do I need an appointment?
No walk-ins are currently accepted. Vaccines are available by appointment only. Call 800-343-1577 to schedule an appointment.
What do I need to bring to an appointment?
  • If you have insurance, bring your insurance card and ID.
  • If you have started your vaccine series, bring your vaccine card.
  • Even though the vaccine is free, we can help you find insurance for other medical care. Please bring an ID, any paystubs or proof of income, and proof of residence.
Is it safe for pregnant women to get a COVID-19 vaccine or booster?

The vaccines are safe and effective for pregnant women. Vaccination during pregnancy or while breastfeeding builds antibodies that may even help protect the baby.

The CDC recommends COVID-19 vaccination and boosters when eligible for those who are pregnant or hoping to become pregnant. Studies show pregnant individuals are at an increased risk for severe illness, hospitalization and even death from COVID-19. Those infected with COVID-19 during pregnancy are also at an increased risk of preterm birth and stillbirth.

Which vaccines are available?
Availability differs by site, but most sites offer Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines and boosters.
When are you up to date?

You are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines when you have completed a COVID-19 vaccine primary series and got the most recent booster dose recommended for you by CDC. If you have completed your primary series—but are not yet eligible for a booster—you are also considered up to date. If you become ill with COVID-19 after you received all COVID-19 vaccine doses recommended for you, you are also considered up to date. You do not need to be revaccinated or receive an additional booster.

Are there side effects?

Side effects from the COVID-19 vaccine can vary from person to person.

Some people experience a little discomfort and can continue to go about their day. Others have side effects that affect their ability to do daily activities.

Side effects generally go away in a few days. Learn more about possible side effects here.

What is a booster?

A booster is the extra dose of a vaccine after the original (or primary) dose is administered. COVID-19 vaccines remain highly effective against the virus, but protection can reduce over time. Booster shots increase the level of immune response in those who are fully vaccinated and provide more protection against COVID-19.
